This is Jerry’s (the FS series designer) favorite skiff. Slightly bigger than the FS 10, the FS 12 Skiff has a higher payload and is only slightly heavier. She is still light enough to carhop easily, will carry two fishermen and their gear. With a 5 hp outboard, she will get you to your favorite fishing spot quickly without using a lot of gas, or making a fuss getting there. With the same sail area as the FS 10 but with a longer waterline, she is more forgiving to sail, yet has a good turn of speed.

A great and all around skiff, the FS 12 will tow well behind a parent boat, making her a great tender. Used as a tender, the FS 12 will carry all the load you need to stock up the mother ship for a weekend or an extended cruise.

All skiffs, because they mean so many things to so many people, are compromises. We feel that the FS series takes many of the unfortunate compromise out of a skiff, and that the FS 12 is the best compromise of the series. If she was around at the time, she should have won the Wooden Boat magazine perfect skiff competition with ease.

Like the FS 10, the FS 12 will take about 60 hours to build and whatever time to takes to gather materials, to build it from Common Sense Boats complete and detailed plans.
